Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Sweeps Elizabeth City State

Virginia Union University's Brandy Roberts tossed her second shut-out in as many days while teammate Jayanna Richards struck out seven as the Lady Panthers swept a softball double-header against Elizabeth City State University 3-0 and 4-2 on Sunday, April 14, at Elizabeth City, N.C.

Roberts has not allowed an earned run in 18 consecutive innings.

VUU's Alaysia Miller slugged a triple in the first game while VUU's Kallie Garland slammed a double in the second game.

"Today we had two of our best games all season defensively," said VUU Head Softball Coach Dominique Mulero.  "Brandy Roberts pitched game one, hitting her spots and trusting her defense all game. We had big hits from Alaysia Miller and Akhi Jenkins. Caston Garland came up with big plays at shortstop all day. In game two we came out a little flat but we picked it up in the late innings and scored big runs. Nevaeh Johnson and Jenna Nicolski came up big with clutch hits and bunts. Jayanna Richard pitched extremely well, hitting her spots and mixing speeds. We did struggle today in both games by leaving too many runners on base, but we'll get back to work this week and make the adjustment. I'm very proud of today's outcome, but the jobs not finished. We have one series remaining against a tough Virginia State squad."

VUU will close out the 2024 regular season with a double-header against Virginia State University on Saturday, April 20, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the VUU Softball Field in Richmond, Va.
