Virginia Union University's
Bruni Martinez had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, but Bluefield State University defeated the Lady Panthers 67-64 in overtime on Saturday, February 10, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
VUU's
Ny Langley led the Lady Panthers with 12 points while teammate
Camary Harris added 10 points in the game.
The loss dropped the Lady Panthers to a half-game behind Elizabeth City State University in the Northern Division of the CIAA. ECSU is 5-1 while VUU is 5-2 in divisional play.
"Bluefield came to play today and we did not match their energy the first half," said VUU Head Women's Coach
Tierra Terry. "We found some intensity in the second half but just made too many errors in the overtime and could not pull it out. We would like to thank the seniors for believing in what we are trying to accomplish and for helping us have a good season so far. We did not get this win for them, so we owe them. Time to bounce back."
Virginia Union will now travel to Bowie, Md., to face Bowie State University at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14.
