Virginia Union University's
Taniyah Greene scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to power the Lady Panthers to a 75-47 win over CIAA rival Claflin University on Thursday, December 5, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
VUU's
Rori Cox scored 14 points while teammate
Bruni Martinez added 12 points in the win for VUU.
"Claflin is an excellently coached, relentless team, so we knew they would be a fierce competitor," said VUU Head Women's Basketball Coach
Tierra Terry. "Today was personal for us. We bounced back from our loss to NC-Pembroke and played together and played to win. We had 18 assists, shot 50% from the field, and out-rebounded them tonight.
Taniyah Greene had a very impressive double-double with 22 and 12,
Tatiana Jones and
Bruni Martinez snatched nine boards for us, and
Hailey Blackwell had seven assists. The quote before the game was 'A rising tide lifts all boats.' so when one player is successful the team is successful. Very proud of our young ladies for handling business tonight."
VUU now travels to Garden City, N.Y., to face Adelphi University at 1:30 p.m. On Saturday, December 7.
