Virginia Union University's
Bruni Martinez scored 15 points, but UNC-Pembroke defeated the Lady Panthers 72-56 on Tuesday, December 3, in Pembroke, N.C.
VUU's
Taniyah Greene scored 14 points and had a team-high six rebounds while teammate
Brittini Martin added 10 points in the game.
"We faced adversity early in the game and fought through it," said VUU Head Women's Basketball Coach
Tierra Terry. "Unfortunately we had too many bad turnovers, defensive errors, and missed free throws late in the game when it mattered the most. We played a ranked, well coached team tough, but just could not pull it out.
Bruni Martinez showed some toughness and grit this game with 15 points and five rebounds.
Brittini Martin did the little things and finished with 10 points and
Taniyah Greene had a solid 14 points and six rebounds in the game. We have to correct our mistakes and get ready for conference play Thursday."
Virginia Union now returns to Barco-Stevens Hall to face Claflin University at 5:30 p.m. In Richmond, Va., on Thursday, December 5.
