Virginia Union University's
Nevaeh Reaves scored a season-high 22 points as VUU improved to 8-3 on the season with a 79-73 win over Livingstone College on Tuesday, December 17, in Salisbury, N.C.
VUU also remained undefeated in CIAA play at 3-0.
Virginia Union's rookie sensation
Maia Charles recorded her first collegiate double-double by scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the win while teammate
Rori Cox added 17 points.
"Livingstone always plays hard and makes it hard to win at Trent Gymnasium," said VUU Head Women's Basketball Coach
Tierra Terry. "We caught fire early in the third quarter but had some costly turnovers that allowed them to cut the lead. We did a good job of keeping control of the lead in a crucial time and made some baskets that helped us stretch the game back out.
Nevaeh Reaves shot extremely well from the 3-point line and finished with 22 points.
Rori Cox had a strong offensive effort with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Freshman
Maia Charles came up big late in the game and finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds, making it her first career double-double! Even in victory we have a lot to learn. Time to prepare for JCSU on Thursday."
Virginia Union will now travel to Charlotte, N.C., to face Johnson C. Smith University at 3:00 p.m. On Thursday, December 19.
