Virginia Union University's Taniyah Greene stole the ball as time expired that sealed a 59-58 win for the Lady Panthers over Johnson C. Smith University on Thursday, December 19, in Charlotte, N.C.

Greene led VUU with 18 points while teammate Maia Charles recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

VUU's Nevaeh Reaves also scored 12 points and Brittini Martin dished off a team-high five assists as VUU raised its record to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in the CIAA.

"We had a crazy battle in Brayboy tonight," said VUU Head Women's Basketball Coach Tierra Terry.  "JCSU played extremely hard, but we are proud of our young ladies for playing even harder and fighting until the end. Freshman Maia Charles was crucial in this game with her second double-double of the season and four assists. Brittini Martin had five assists, Nevaeh Reaves had 12 points, and Taniyah Greene had 18 points, four blocks, and four steals- including a steal that sealed the game for us. We always say teamwork and defense wins games. We found a way together. We will take a little time to enjoy the Holiday season, regroup, and get ready for the second half of the season. Virginia Union will return home to Barco-Stevens Hall to face the Virginia University of Lynchburg at 2:00 p.m. On Sunday, January 5, 2025.
