Mark Wright completed 13 of 17 passes for 166 yards and a touchdown and rushed for another score as VUU defeated Winston-Salem State University 31-13 on Saturday, October 5, at Hovey Stadium in Richmond, Va.
VUU's
Curtis Allen rushed for 68 yards as teammates
Jada Byers and
Steven McKinney both rushed for touchdowns in the win.
Virginia Union's
Reginald Vick, Jr., caught three passes for 55 yards and a touchdown.
On the defensive side, VUU's
Shamar Graham had 11 tackles and
Raylyn Manley picked off an errant Ram pass for an interception.
"It was another great win against a tough Winston Salem team," said VUU Head Football Coach Dr.
Alvin Parker. "I loved our balance in all phases of the game. I am extremely proud of program for today's performance".
Virginia Union is now 3-2 overall and 2-0 in CIAA play while Winston-Salem State fell to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the CIAA.
VUU will now host Elizabeth City State University at 1:00 p.m. On Saturday, October 12, in Hovey Stadium in Richmond, Va., as the part of the Dr. Lucille M. Brown Community Youth Bowl.
