Virginia Union University's Jada Byers rushed 188 yards and two touchdowns while teammate Shamar Graham had 14 tackles as VUU downed Elizabeth City State University 35-0 on Saturday, October 12, at Hovey Field in Richmond, Va.

VUU's Mark Wright completed nine of 17 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for another while Jalen Mayo became the first Panther to block two kicks in a single game since Brian Smith in 2009.  The school record for blocked kicks is three, held by Robert Convers against Norfolk State University in 1980.

VUU's Kalen Carver caught two touchdown passes as VUU recorded its second straight shutout over Elizabeth City State in Hovey Field.  The Panthers shut out the Vikings 49-0 at Hovey Field in 2022.

"We're capable of going to the NCAA playoffs for the third straight year," said VUU Head Coach Dr. Alvin Parker.  "But we've got to play though, because we're not only coming off a CIAA championship season, but two straight playoff appearances.  That means you're going to get everybody's best shot, so you've got to give everybody your best shot."

VUU is now 4-2 overall and 3-0 in CIAA play.  The Panthers will now travel to Lincoln University, Pa., to face Lincoln University of Pennsylvania at 1:00 p.m. On Saturday, October 19.
