Virginia Union University's
Ny Langley scored a game-high 18 points and had six rebounds to lead VUU to a 53-47 win over Elizabeth City State University on Wednesday, January 31, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
The win over the defending CIAA champions gave the Lady Panthers sole possession of first place in the Northern Division of the CIAA. VUU now has a perfect 4-0 divisional record and is 15-6 overall and 8-3 in CIAA play.
"I thought we came out tonight and overcame a bad first half," said VUU Head Women's Basketball Coach
Tierra Terry. "ECSU has a lot of depth, experience, and playmakers, so we really had to pull together as a team and refuse to lose this game.
Ny Langley was phenomenal from the free-throw line tonight (10-for-12).
Kiara Shepherd was an unsung hero with three key assists to help secure the victory. The second half was exciting to watch because we played team basketball on both ends. It is amazing what can be achieved when you play FOR each other."
Virginia Union will now travel to Lincoln, Pa., to face Lincoln University of Pennsylvania at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 3.
