Virginia Union University's
Nevaeh Reaves scored a career-high 27 points to lead the Lady Panthers to a 73-54 win over Bluefield State University on Saturday, January 27, in Bluefield, W.V.
The Lady Panthers are tied for the lead in the Northern Division of the CIAA with Elizabeth City State University. Both the Lady Panthers and Lady Vikings have perfect 3-0 records.
VUU's
Ny Langley recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds while teammate
Bruni Martinez added 10 points in the win.
"We knew Bluefield would come out pressing the entire game, so we tried our best to prep for it," said VUU Head Women's Basketball Coach
Tierra Terry. "We did a good job attacking forward and staying composed under their tough pressure. Defense won us this game- we forced 24 turnovers and had 14 steals.
Nevaeh Reaves stepped up big time going 7-8 from the 3-point line! Of course, that always helps as well. It was a great team victory that is worthy of celebration tonight and then it is time to get refocused for Elizabeth City."
Virginia Union will now return home to Barco-Stevens Hall for a showdown with Elizabeth City State for the lead in the CIAA North at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31.
