Virginia Union University's
Joshua Caine scored a career-high 24 points to lead VUU to a 76-60 win over Bluefield State University on Saturday, January 27, in Bluefield, W.V.
Caine hit 12 of 14 shots from the field while also grabbing a team-high nine rebounds.
VUU's
Tahj Harding scored 17 points while teammate
Jonathan Salazar added 10 points.
The win moved VUU into a tie with Lincoln University of Pennsylvania for first place in the Northern Division of the CIAA. Both the Panthers and the Lions have 3-0 divisional records.
"This was a really good road win for us," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. "I thought we did a great job defensively and did a good job handling Bluefield State full court pressure.Â
Joshua Caine got us off to a good start today and
Tahj Harding was very efficient throughout the entire game. I also thought the trio of guards
Travis Vaughn,
Kaylen Vines, and
Jakobe Williams were solid handling the pressure to help extend the lead."
VUU will now return home to face Elizabeth City State University at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
