Curtis Allen rushed for 155 yards on 30 carries, but Fayetteville State University dealt VUU it's first loss of the season by defeating the Panthers 10-7 in a rain-soaked Hovey Stadium on Saturday, September 23, in Richmond, Va.
The game was decided when Fayetteville State's Jacob Meneses doinked a 27-yard field goal through the uprights with six seconds left in the game.
"I'm proud of the guys," said VUU Head Football Coach Dr.
Alvin Parker. "I thought we fought through, but we had some untimely turnovers, and we had three of them tonight that came back to bite us. But they were forced. Fayetteville State did a good job, and I take my hat off to Coach Hayes, his staff and his team. They came up here and they beat us. Now it's time for us to get back to the drawing board and work on some things. but I'm proud of my guys."
In a game where defense was king, VUU held Fayetteville State to just six first downs and 92 offensive yards. The Panthers, on the other hand, racked up 184 total yards in offense, but lost three fumbles.

The loss dropped VUU to 3-1 on the season and 1-1 in the CIAA. Fayetteville State is now 2-2 overall and 2-0 in CIAA play.
Virginia Union will now travel to Raleigh, N.C., to face Saint Augustine's University at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 30.
