Virginia Union University's football team got back on the winning track by downing Saint Augustine's University 47-7 on Saturday, September 30, in Raleigh, N.C.
VUU's
Curtis Allen rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns in the win. The 151 yards marked the second straight game which Allen has rushed for 150 or more yards.
VUU's defense held the Falcons to -24 yards rushing with Virginia Union's
Armonii Burden getting six tackles and three quarterback hurries while teammate
Isaiah Dickens had six tackles and two quarterback hurries.
The Panther defense also scored a safety when VUU's
Lamumba Howard tackled a Saint Augustine's player after
Ephraim Moore blocked a Falcon punt.
"The defense is playing extraordinarily," said VUU Head Football Coach Dr.
Alvin Parker. "I'm really happy to see that because we knew what those guys can do on that side of the ball. We've got a lot of playmakers over there and there are too many names to call out, but when you look at the stat sheet, you'll see that everybody is making plays on defense."
VUU is now 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the CIAA. Saint Augustine's falls to 0-5 on the season and 0-2 in CIAA play.
Virginia Union will now travel to Elizabeth City, N.C., to face Elizabeth City State University at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 7.
