Softball Salutes Seniors in Double-Header

Virginia Union University's softball team saluted its four seniors in a double-header against Elizabeth City State University on Sunday, April 2, at the VUU Softball Field in Richmond, Va.

Unfortunately, the Vikings swept the Panthers 13-10 in the opener and 17-5 in the second game.

VUU saluted seniors Summer Moroch, Diamond Jones, Darnae Jones and Arianna Burford between the games of the double-header.

In the first game, Burford slammed two home runs before the Panthers fell just short in the 7-inning contest.

In the second game, Diamond Jones and Nevaeh Johnson slugged homers.

"First and foremost I'd like to thank our seniors Diamond, Arianna, Summer, and Darnae, they have lead this team this year," said VUU Head Softball Coach Dominique Mulero.  "I wish today could've gone different for them but we cannot win them all. This first game we started off a little slow but picked up with our bats second time around the lineup.

"In the second game we just came out flat and that showed in the early innings. We had some good moments and big hits from Arianna Burford, Diamond Jones, Alaysia Miller, and Nevaeh Johnson. We struggled on defense today, we need to make the routine plays and help our pitchers out. We're making our pitching staff throw too many pitches each inning, and with our limited staff that's not something we can do! We're going to get back to work this week and prepare for them again on Friday!"

Virginia Union will now travel to Elizabeth City, N.C., to face the Vikings on Friday, April 7, in a double-header beginning at 1:00 p.m.
