Virginia Union University's
Raemaad Wright led the way by scoring 17 points as VUU downed Shaw University 60-53 on Wednesday, February 15, in Raleigh, N.C.
VUU's
Robert Osborne recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
The victory raised the Panthers' record to 21-6 on the season. VUU can clinch the #1 seed entering into the CIAA Tournament with a win over Virginia State University on Saturday.
"Another good solid road win against a good offensive Shaw team," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. "It was Shaw's senior night so we knew they would come out with a lot of energy shooting the 3-pointer, and they did a good job shooting the ball in the first half. Anytime you can hold Shaw to 23 points in the second half that's a great defensive performance and we did an excellent job getting out on their shooters to get the win.  I thought our seniors stepped up in the second half. Robbie and Raemaad did a good job rebounding, which allowed us to get out and score in transition."
Virginia Union will wrap up the 2022-23 regular season when they face VSU at 4:00 p.m. at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va., on Saturday, February 18.
