Virginia Union University's Ashlee Franklin had seven assists and a service ace, but Elizabeth City State defeated the Lady Panthers 25-11, 25-16, 25-15 on Thursday, November 9, in Elizabeth City, N.C.

The loss gives VUU a final CIAA Northern Division record of 3-7, which means Virginia Union will finish in fifth place in the CIAA Northern Division.  

The CIAA only invites the top four teams of each division to the Volleyball Championship Tournament.

VUU's Alana Simmons and Ga'Leisha Miller each had five kills while Alaysia Miller had 10 defensive digs.

"We got out played tonight by a great Elizabeth City team," said VUU Head Volleyball Coach Joe Sullivan.  They were willing to hit the floor on every play."

Virginia Union finished the 2023 season with a final 11-16 record overall and 4-13 in CIAA play.
