Virginia Union University's
Robert Osborne and
Raemaad Wright both collected double-doubles as VUU downed Elizabeth City State University 59-53 on Thursday, January 26, in Elizabeth City, N.C.
Osborne led the scoring with 15 points while hauling down 12 rebounds. Wright scored 11 points while grabbing a team-high 13 rebounds.
VUU's
Charles Tart III added 12 points and
Mahzi Thames scored 10 points in the win.
"It's good to get a road win in a place we haven't won at in the last couple of years," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. "I told the guys Elizabeth City is a tough place to play and we needed to be focused from the start to get the win. I thought we came out very aggressive on the defensive end and held ECSU to only 21 first half points. I was really impressed with
Mahzi Thames floor game in the first half when Robbie got into early first half foul trouble. Mahzi really got us going early.  In the second half I thought we were careless with the ball and allowed ECSU stay in the game until the end."
VUU will return home to Barco-Stevens Hall to face Shaw University at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, in Richmond, Va.
