Osborne is Key to VUU's Overtime Win Over Lincoln

Virginia Union University's Robert Osborne led all players with 26 points and 11 rebounds as VUU defeated Lincoln University of Pennsylvania 74-72 in overtime on Wednesday, January 18, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.

VUU's Charles Tart III scored in double-figures with 13 points as Virginia Union raised it's record to 15-4 on the season and 5-2 in the CIAA.

The win, coupled with Virginia State University's 86-76 loss to Shaw University, moved VUU into first place in the Northern Division of the CIAA.

"I thought the experience of playing so many overtime games was the key to us getting the win tonight," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach Jay Butler.  "The guys showed a lot of character and experience in the overtime that allowed us to pull away from talented Lincoln team.  Robbie continues to be the most consistent player on our team. He came up with key plays on both ends of the floor the entire game, especially in overtime, to seal the win.  I also thought Charles Tart is starting to turn into our best defender on the court and when he gets going defensively the other players start to follow."

Virginia Union will now travel to Bowie, Md., to face Bowie State University in a nationally televised game at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 21.
