Virginia Union University's
Brittini Martin scored 15 points, but Virginia State University defeated the Lady Panthers 59-49 on Saturday, January 14, in Petersburg, Va.
VUU's
Bruni Martinez pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds in the game.
"This is obviously always going to be a tough game because VSU is our arch-rival," said VUU Head Women's Basketball Coach
Tierra Terry. "Virginia State came out and played well, and I personally feel that some little things killed us. We gave up too many points in the paint, had some turnovers that they capitalized on, and had some defensive slip-ups that we'll need to work on."
Virginia Union will now return to Barco-Stevens Hall to face Lincoln (Pa.) University at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18.
