Virginia Union University's Chris Alston scored a team-high 14 points, but Lincoln University of Pennsylvania defeated the Lady Panthers 52-51 on Wednesday, January 18, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.

VUU's Ny Langley scored 12 points while teammate Bruni Martinez had nine rebounds in the game.

"Almost beating the #1 team and coming up short by one point is a tough feeling to process," said VUU Head Women's Basketball Coach Tierra Terry.  "All of our players who stepped on the court gave maximum effort. We have to improve our focus in tight game situations. One defensive slip-up at the end of the game sadly determined the outcome. Bowie State will be a tough game for us as well, but we are going to use this game as a learning opportunity and focus on Saturday's game."

Virginia Union will face Bowie State University at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, in Bowie, Md.
