The No. 2 seed Panthers grinded out a 71-59 semifinal victory over No. 3 seed and defending champion Winston-Salem State in the CIAA Tournament at the Royal Farms Arena on Friday, February 25, in Baltimore, Md.
Osborne also collected a game-high 12 rebounds as VUU recorded its 23
rd win of the season, which is a personal best for VUU Head Coach
Jay Butler. Butler's previous high was 22 wins in the 2016-17 season.
The 23 wins are also the most for a Virginia Union men's basketball team since the 2006-07 team won 23 games.
Virginia Union is now 23-6.
"I can't say enough about Winston-Salem State," said Butler. "They're the defending CIAA champs, and we were blessed to play three tough games against them this year. It started when we were able to win the championship of the Chris Paul Classic, and that kind of got us going throughout the season."
Virginia Union will face top-seeded Fayetteville State University for the CIAA championship on Saturday, February 26, at 4:00 p.m. in the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Md.
The Panthers defeated the Broncos 62-48 on Saturday, November 27, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va., but lost to Fayetteville State 53-45 on Tuesday, January 25, in Fayetteville, N.C.
The game will be televised on ESPNU.
