Virginia Union University's
Raemaad Wright scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds, but LeMoyne-Owen College defeated the Panthers 66-62 on Saturday, November 19, in the second game of the ATL HBCU Challenge in Atlanta, Ga.
VUU's Devon Sims scored 13 points while teammate Robert Osborne added 12 points in the game.
"We wanted to challenge ourselves early with six road games in nine days and we fell one game short from completing that goal of winning all six games, said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. "We had our opportunities, but we missed too many free throws, didn't rebound at a high level, and did not have enough defensive stops when we needed them down the stretch.  I thought Devon Sims and
Raemaad Wright played extremely well the last two games in Atlanta, and we are going to need that consistent play from them throughout the season."
VUU is now 5-1 on the season.
The Panthers will now travel to Fayetteville, N.C., to face Fayetteville State University at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 27. The game will be streamed live on the CIAA Sports Network.
