Virginia Union University's Robert Osborne scored a team-high 18 points and captured Player of the Game honors as the Panthers downed Xavier University of Louisiana 72-59 to capture the championship of the Chris Paul Classic on Wednesday, November 16, in Uncasville, Conn.
VUU's Keleaf Tate scored 15 points while teammate
Raemaad Wright added 11 points in the win.
Virginia Union's Devon Sims rounded out the double-figure scoring with 10 points.
"I'm really proud of the guys today," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. "They came out from the start and locked in defensively. To win the Chris Paul Tournament back-to-back years is great for the program.  I thought seniors Keleaf Tate, Robert Osborne,
Raemaad Wright, and Devon Sims played extremely well both days! They showed a lot of leadership in this tournament."
The win raised VUU's record to 4-0 on the season.
Virginia Union will now travel to Atlanta, Ga., to compete in the HBCU Challenge. The Panthers will play Albany State University at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, and will then face LeMoyne-Owen College at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19.
