Virginia Union University's
Keleaf Tate scored a team-high 21 points to lead VUU to a 97-90 come-from-behind win over Lincoln University of Pennsylvania on Saturday, January 22, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
Virginia Union trailed until four minutes left in the game when the Panthers took a 78-77 lead on a dunk by
Jordan Peebles.
"You've got to tip your hat to Lincoln, because they played a great game," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. "They put up 90 points on us and that's the most we've had scored against us in a long time. We scored 65 points in the second half, and that was a great offensive performance. We needed to get some stops down the stretch and we got them when we needed them."
Peebles scored 18 points while teammate
Tyriek Railey added 16 points.
VUU's
Darius Hines scored 15 points and teammate
Robert Osborne had a team-high eight rebounds.
The win raised Virginia Union's record to 13-4 overall and 6-1 in the CIAA. Lincoln fell to 12-6 overall and 5-2 in CIAA play.
Virginia Union now travels to Fayetteville, N.C., to face Fayetteville State University at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25.
