Virginia Union University's
Robert Osborne scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, but #5 Nova Southeastern outlasted VUU 93-88 in overtime on Sunday, December 19, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
VUU led 74-72 with 0.2 seconds left in the game, but Nova Southeastern hit a desperation jumper as the buzzer sounded to send the game into overtime.
"I thought the guys fought hard the entire night and to have the lead with .4 seconds to play against the #5 ranked team in the country," said VUU Head Coach
Jay Butler. "We just needed to make one more stop but they hit the shot to send it to overtime.
"I was proud of
Kaylen Vines and
Rasheed Gatling handling Nova Southeastern pressure all night.
Raemaad Wright and Robbie Osborne both played good games with double doubles. Freshman
Tahj Harding continue to get better each game."
Wright scored 16 points and had 11 rebounds while Harding scored a career-high 18 points. Â
Vines added 11 points and teammate
Demarius Pitts scored 10 points.
VUU's record is now 8-3 while Nova Southeastern is 10-0.
Virginia Union is now idle for the remainder of 2021. The Panthers return to action when they meet Bluefield State College at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
