Virginia Union University placed five players in double figures, but Millersville University escaped with a 97-88 win in double-overtime on Monday, November 29, in Millersville, Pa.
VUU, ranked 10th in the Atlantic Region of the NCAA, had tied the game at the end of regulation when, with 0.6 seconds left on the clock, the Panthers'
Tahj Harding hauled in a length-of-the-court pass and then hit a jumper as time expired.
Virginia Union's
Raemaad Wright and
Keleaf Tate led the Panthers with 15 points apiece in the game while
Tyriek Railey scored 12 points and Harding added 11. VUU's
Demarius Pitts also scored 10 points.
"I thought we fought hard tonight, playing against a good undefeated Millersville team to send it into double overtime, but we came up short at the end," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. "This was a good test for us on the road to battle against some adversity and to see how we respond to it.  These types of games will have us prepared for CIAA conference and tournament play.
VUU scored 52 points in the paint compared to Millersville's 38 points on the inside. Â
Wright also led VUU with 10 rebounds.
The loss drops Virginia Union to 4-2 on the season while Millersville is now 5-0.
The Panthers now travel to Salem, W.V., to face Salem University at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 3.
