Virginia Union University's volleyball team opened the Homecoming 2021 festivities by downing Bowie State University in a dramatic five-set victory 25-21, 21-25, 26-28, 25-20, 15-11 on Thursday, October 7, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
VUU's Essence Poteat powered the offense with 18 kills while teammate Amilex Lopez-Ayala collected three service aces.
Virginia Union's Denise Burk had 35 assists and Maysun Creer had 28 defensive digs.
The win was the first CIAA victory for the Lady Panthers.
Bowie State fell to 1-12 and 0-6 in the CIAA.
Virginia Union now faces Lincoln University of Pennsylvania at 6 p.m. on Monday, October 11, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
