Virginia Union's Breonn Hughey also scored a career-high 12 points while leading the Lady Panthers with five assists.

"I am quite proud of how the team has come together over the last few games," said VUU Head Women's Basketball Coach AnnMarie Gilbert.  "We gave a strong team effort vs. Shaw.  Peyton Evans has stepped up to lead us in scoring and she is now averaging 19 points per game over the past three games.  She's been locked in and has put the team on her back.  Peyton gave a gutsy defensive effort not only in scoring but also by grabbing eight steals and two rebounds.  Jasmine Carter provided a huge inside presence with 17 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  Breonn Hughey had quite a breakout game with her impressive floor vision while in addition to her scoring, four rebounds, four assists, three steals while only committing one turnover in 27 minutes.  Ifunanya Okoye also showed some impressive passing as she was good for eight points, five rebounds, and four assists.   Twelve of the 14 Lady Panthers who played scored.  I couldn't be more proud of how we scored and defended tonight, giving up only 49 points to the Lady Bears."

The win raised the Lady Panthers' record to 9-1 on the season and 3-0 in CIAA play.  Shaw fell to 4-8 overall and 1-4 in the CIAA.

Virginia Union now travels to Raleigh, N.C., to face Saint Augustine's University at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, January 6.
