Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Leach Has Second Straight 30-Point Game

Virginia Union University's Terrell Leach recorded his second straight game with 30 or more points as the Panthers defeated Bowie State University 82-71 on Thursday, January 30, in Bowie, Md.

Leach scored 30 points against the Bulldogs, and he scored 38 points in VUU's last game against Johnson C. Smith University.

"This was a big road win for us," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach Jay Butler.  "It was a war on the boards and we won the battle in the second half.  I thought Jordan Peebles and Raemaad Wright were fantastic tonight rebounding the basketball.   Terrell Leach started the game very aggressive and stayed in attack mode throughout the game.   Anytime we can get him to the foul line a lot he's going to have a great night scoring.  Overall it was a very good team win."

Leach went 12-for-16 from the free throw line while Wright scored 21 points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.  Peebles added 12 points in the win.

Leach's 12 free throws were the most by a Panther since Ray Anderson hit 13 free throws against Washington Adventist University on November 20, 2016.

The win raised VUU's record to 12-10 overall and 5-4 in the CIAA.  Bowie State fell to 13-9 overall and 5-4 in CIAA play.

Virginia Union now returns home to Barco-Stevens Hall to face Saint Augustine's University at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, February 3.
