Virginia Union University's
Terrell Leach recorded his second straight game with 30 or more points as the Panthers defeated Bowie State University 82-71 on Thursday, January 30, in Bowie, Md.
Â
Leach scored 30 points against the Bulldogs, and he scored 38 points in VUU's last game against Johnson C. Smith University.
Â
"This was a big road win for us," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler.  "It was a war on the boards and we won the battle in the second half. I thought
Jordan Peebles and
Raemaad Wright were fantastic tonight rebounding the basketball. Â Â
Terrell Leach started the game very aggressive and stayed in attack mode throughout the game.   Anytime we can get him to the foul line a lot he's going to have a great night scoring. Overall it was a very good team win."
Â
Leach went 12-for-16 from the free throw line while Wright scored 21 points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds. Peebles added 12 points in the win.
Â
Leach's 12 free throws were the most by a Panther since
Ray Anderson hit 13 free throws against Washington Adventist University on November 20, 2016.
Â
The win raised VUU's record to 12-10 overall and 5-4 in the CIAA. Bowie State fell to 13-9 overall and 5-4 in CIAA play.
Â
Virginia Union now returns home to Barco-Stevens Hall to face Saint Augustine's University at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, February 3.
