Jasmine Carter scored a game-high 24 points as the Lady Panthers scored 52 points in the second half to give VUU a 91-65 win over Shaw University on Monday, January 20, in Raleigh, N.C.

"We played a solid game today scoring 52 points in the second half while holding Shaw to just 31 second half points," said VUU Head Women's Basketball Coach
AnnMarie Gilbert. Â Â "Our defense woke up in the second half and ignited our running game. We had many outstanding performances with five players in double figures.
Jasmine Carter shot a blistering 73% from the field on 11-15 shooting ending with 24 points eight rebounds and two steals.
Ifunanya Okoye had a second half surge with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and two assists.
Shameka McNeill used her warp speed and skill set to fill the stat sheet with 15 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Breonn Hughey dissected their defense adding 11 points, 10 assists and three steals.
Dy'Manee Royal chipped in 13 points and six rebounds. Shaw was a much improved team from the first time we played them. They came out on fire but our defense proved to be too much in the second half. This was a great team effort."

VUU's defense forced Shaw into committing 20 turnovers, as opposed to Virginia Union's 10. VUU also had 52 points in the paint and scored 24 points off turnovers.

The win raised VUU's record to 14-2 overall after this non-conference matchup. Shaw fell to 6-12.

Virginia Union now travels to Elizabeth City, N.C., to face Elizabeth City State University on Wednesday, January 22.
