Virginia Union University's
Audrenik Howard slugged three home runs while teammate
Summer Moroch tossed a one-hitter as VUU swept Lincoln University of Pennsylvania 22-0 and 15-0 in a softball double-header on Saturday, March 30, at the VUU Softball Field in Richmond, Va.
Moroch, a freshman from Manassas, Va., flirted with perfection in the first game, taking a perfect game into the fourth inning. She hit a Lincoln batter with one out in the fourth inning after retiring the first 10 batters. Â
"I thought 'dang it,'" she said. "It was a screwball, but sometimes that happens with that pitch."
Moroch gave up her only hit two batters later, a single into right field. She struck out 10 over five innings of work.
"I've never thrown a no-hitter before, and I hadn't thought about it until the outs started to pile up," Moroch said.
Howard, a sophomore from Oak Harbor, Wash., slammed two homers in the first game and a third in the second game. She ended her day by driving in seven runs.
VUU's
Ericka Tiscareno struck out seven while driving in five runs in the second game.
Virginia Union now faces Bowie State University in a double-header at the VUU Softball Field on Sunday, March 31. The first game starts at 12:00 noon.
