Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

McNeill Passes 1,200 Career Points

WATCH GAME | Virginia Union University's Shareka McNeill scored 32 points, but California University of Pennsylvania upset #5 Virginia Union 82-80 on Wednesday, November 13, in California, Pa.

McNeill, who leads the nation with a 38.0 points per game scoring average, now has 1,228 career points.  She passed Paris McWhirter (1,219 points from 1980-83) ninth place among the all-time scoring leaders at VUU.

"I am very proud of the team's toughness to fight hard and not give up vs. California (PA)," said VUU Head Women's Basketball Coach AnnMarie Gilbert.  "It was a game of runs, where we led early and they led late.  We made just a few too many mistakes like giving up some timely 3-point baskets and putting them on the free throw line late in the game.  This game was a good learning experience for us and will pay great dividends moving forward.  Shareka McNeill had a super stat line and led us with 32 points, two rebounds, and four steals.  Shameka McNeill poured in 13 points, four assists, and two steals. Jasmine Carter and Dy'Manee Royal combined for 22 points and 22 rebounds.  Ifunanya Okoye provided 11 points and eight rebounds off the bench. "

The loss dropped VUU to 1-1 while California is now 3-0.  The Lady Panthers will open the 2019-20 home season when they host Palm Beach Atlantic University at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
