Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Spivey Becomes All-Time Assist Leader in Win At Shaw

Virginia Union University's Rejoice Spivey dished out 10 assists to become the all-time assist leader in women's basketball at VUU as the Lady Panthers defeated Shaw University 75-55 on Thursday, January 10, in Raleigh, N.C.

Spivey's 10 assists gives her 438 career assists at VUU, passing the previous mark of 435 set by Pria Stellmacher from 2001-2005.

"We are so proud of Rejoice, who is a two-year captain that works so hard for our team," said VUU Head Coach AnnMarie Gilbert.  "She has a very high IQ and reads the game so well.  Rejoice is selfless almost to a fault as we would like to see her take more shots.  With her leadership and consistent play, we have a chance to win championships this season."

VUU's Shareka McNeill once again topped her personal single-game scoring record by tallying a game-high 34 points.  She had scored 33 points in VUU's 77-38 win over Johnson C. Smith University on January 7.  McNeill is leading the CIAA in scoring with 23.8 scoring average.

Virginia Union's Jazmine Carter led the Lady Panthers with 13 rebounds while teammate Nicole Floyd scored 17 points.

VUU's Bianca Lockamy recorded her first double-double as a Lady Panther with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The win raised the 12th-ranked Lady Panthers' record to 12-1 overall and 3-1 in CIAA play.  Shaw fell to 3-10 overall and 0-5 in the CIAA.

Virginia Union now travels to Fayetteville, N.C., to face Fayetteville State at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 12.
