Box Score Virginia Union University's
Jaiden Reavis caught three touchdown passes as VUU cruised to a 35-10 win over Chowan University on Saturday, October 14, in Hovey Field in Richmond, Va.
The win enabled Virginia Union to keep pace with Virginia State University for first place in the CIAA North. Both teams now have 4-0 conference records and 2-0 divisional records.
Reavis caught his first scoring strike when quarterback
Eric Caldwell hit Reavis for a 43-yard touchdown pass with 14:15 left in the first quarter.
Reavis' second touchdown came less then four minutes later when he again teamed up with Caldwell for a 52-yard pass with 10:17 left in the first quarter.
Reavis' third and final TD came when VUU quarterback
Darius Taylor hit Reavis in the end zone from 20 yards out with 31 seconds left in the first half.
It marked the first time this season that a single receiver has had three or more touchdown catches in a single game. The last Panther player to achieve the feat was
Lavatiae Kelly, who caught three touchdown passes against Saint Augustine's University on October 1, 2016,
In all, Reavis caught five passes for 129 yards.
VUU'sÂ
Darius Taylor, who finished the day by completing 14 of 22 passes for 190 yards, tossed three touchdown passes himself, one to Reavis, one to Aquil Ingram-Harrow and one to
Gustavious Dames. Ingram-Harrow's and Dames' catches both came in the fourth quarter.
It also marked the second straight game where Taylor has thrown for three or more TDs. He tossed three touchdown passes against Lincoln (Pa.) University the week before.
On the defensive side, VUU'sÂ
Sterling Hammond and
Lonte Morton both had 11 tackles while Hammond hauled in his fifth interception on the season. Hammond's five interceptions are the most by a Panther football player since Charles Davis had six interceptions in 2014.

Quantaye Battle also returned an interception for 32 yards.
Virginia Union's kicker,
Jefferson Souza, went 5-for-5 in extra points, making him 27-for-27 on the season.
VUU now travels to face Bowie State University at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 21, in Bowie, Md.
