William Stanback rushed for 143 yards and a touchdown, but Elizabeth City State University defeated the Panthers 24-21 on Saturday, October 29, in Elizabeth City, N.C.
Stanback now has 15 rushing touchdowns, tying him with Jeff Haynes, who rushed for 15 touchdowns in 1983, for the second highest total of rushing touchdowns in a single season.  VUU's Andre Braxton holds the school record with 28 rushing touchdowns in 2000.

Eddie Johnson intercepted an errant ECSU pass, and quarterback
Shawheem Dowdy connected with
Lavatiae Kelly for a 78-yard touchdown pass.
VUU's
Rodeshawn Joseph spoiled another Viking scoring threat when he picked off a pass in the end zone.
After Elizabeth City State pulled to within 14-9, Kelly returned a punt 86 yards for the Panthers third touchdown to make the lead 21-9.
But Elizabeth City State clawed back into contention, and finally scored the eventual winning touchdown with 8:28 left in the fourth quarter.
The loss dropped VUU to 5-4 overall and 4-2 in CIAA play.
Elizabeth City State is now 5-4 overall and 4-2 in CIAAÂ play.
Virginia Union wraps up the 2016 regular season with a 1:00 p.m. match-up with Virginia State University on Saturday, November 5, in Hovey Field in Richmond, Va.
