Virginia Union University's football team, fresh off their 35-21 win over Brevard College in the season opener in Hovey Field on Saturday, September 5, in Richmond, Va., have surged to #2 in the Division II/NAIA Poll conducted by the Heritage Sports Radio Network.

Tuskegee University is ranked #1 in the nation in the poll, followed by VUU, Virginia State University and Livingston College.  Bowie State, Winston-Salem State and Elizabeth City State are all tied for fifth place.

For over a century Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) have participated in collegiate athletics. Some of the world's greatest sports legends trace their roots back to black college sports. For much of its existence, this sports community, with a sizable and loyal fan base, has operated with "little to no" media exposure. Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN) was created to bring fans of black college sports and their teams together. Since 2006, HSRN has broadcast more black college sporting events than any other sports network. By combining state of the art technology with cutting edge programming, HSRN has become "the preeminent voice of HBCU sports."

HSRN will also broadcast Virginia Union's football game with Saint Augustine's University on Saturday, September 12, live over Sirius XM Radio.  The Panthers and the Falcons kick off at 1:00 p.m. on September 12.
