Charles Davis picked off two interceptions as VUU defeated Fayetteville State University in a non-conference match-up 25-13 on Saturday, September 20, in Fayetteville, N.C.
Davis returned one pick for 48 yards.
Virginia Union got on the board first when
Troy Krepich connected on a 35-yard field goal with 11:02 left in the first quarter. Â The VUU defense then recorded its second safety of the season when an FSU snap sailed out of the end zone.
VUU's defense struck again when the Panthers blocked a punt and freshman
Donovan Stephenson fell on the ball in the end zone for a touchdown.
Virginia Union then turned to a double-pass combination where
Jussie York heaved a 40-yard touchdown pass to
Lennworth Lennon.
The Panthers finished out the scoring on a 60-yard run by
Jerome Robinson.
VUU's
Shawheem Dowdy connected on 14 of 21 passes for 157 yards.
The win raised VUU's record to 2-1 on the season while Fayetteville State fell to 0-3.
Virginia Union now travels to Charlotte, N.C., to take on Johnson C. Smith University at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27.
