Lennworth Lennon took the ball in from two yards out with 2:34 left in the third quarter to give the Panthers a 14-7 win over Elizabeth City State University on Saturday, November 1, in Elizabeth City, N.C.
The win gave head coach
Mark James his seventh victory of the season, breaking the record of six wins for a first-year VUU coach. Â Thomas Harris had six wins in his first season in 1950 and Michael Bailey had six wins in his first season in 2003.
The win was also the first time the Panthers beat the Vikings since 2005 and marked VUU's first win in Elizabeth City since 2004.
Elizabeth City got on the board first with a touchdown run by quarterback Tyrell Houghton with 3:33 left in the first quarter.

Dane James hit
Jussie York with a 15-yard touchdown pass with 7:39 left in the third quarter.
Union's Lennon then provided the eventual winning score.
The win gives VUU a 7-2 record overall, and 5-1 in the CIAA, marking the first time a Panther football team has had seven or more wins since 2001. Â Elizabeth City State dropped to 4-5 overall and 3-3 in CIAA play.
The win also sets up a showdown with Virginia State University for the CIAA Northern Division title at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, in Hovey Field in Richmond, Va.
