Virginia Union University's
Aris McGlone - English passed for 177 yards and one touchdown, but Bowie State University's Clifton Budd set a school record with 32 completions and 355 yards passing to lead the Bulldogs to a 28-27 come-from-behind victory over VUU on September 25 in Bowie, Md.
VUU opened the scoring when McGlone-English found
Andre Winston alone in the end zone with 13:31 left in the first quarter. But Bowie State stormed back and took a 15-13 lead to the locker room at halftime.
VUU surged back in the third quarter, scoring touchdowns on a one-yard plunge by Terrell Washington and then on a 17-yard fumble return by
Ja'Mir Drakeford to give the Panthers a 27-15 lead.
Bowie State, however, scored a touchdown in the third quarter and then Budd hit Gregory Jackson for a 39-yard touchdown strike with 12:50 left in the game. The PAT gave the Bulldogs the win.
VUU was led by Winston's 69 yards in receiving while
Adidias Arrington had 10 tackles.
VUU now travels to Murfreesboro, N.C., to face Chowan University on October 2.
