VUU quarterback Aris McGlone - English passed for five touchdowns and then rushed for one more as the Panthers got their first win of the season by downing Lincoln University 55-31 in Hovey Field on September 19.
McGlone-English's heroics led the Panthers back from a 12-0 deficit midway through the second quarter.
The sophomore quarterback started the VUU scoring by connecting with Joseph Jean-Pierre from 23 yards out with 8:43 left in the second quarter.
McGlone-English then hit Jean-Pierre again, this time from 12 yards out to give the Panthers a 13-12 lead with 3:08 left in the half.
VUU's Marques Johnson then picked off a screen pass from Lincoln quarterback Laquan Williams and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown.
Lincoln scored once more to make the score 20-18 in favor of VUU at the half.
In the third quarter, McGlone-English kept up the scoring strikes, connecting with Jean-Pierre for a third time to give the Panthers a 27-18 lead, and then hit Cheikh Gadiaga from 23 yards away to put the VUU lead at 34-25,
McGlone-English passed for his final touchdown at the beginning of the fourth quarter, hitting Trevon Winston from 22 yards away with 14:10 left in the game.
For good measure, McGlone-English scored his final touchdown himself, scampering into the end zone from seven yards out with 11:40 left to play.
VUU capped the scoring when Michael Hassell rushed in from 31 yards away.
McGlone-English finished the day with 10 completions on 21 attempts for 193 yards. Jean-Pierre had seven catches for 156 yards and three touchdowns. Tarian Donaldson led VUU in rushing with 82 yards on 14 carries.
VUU now travels to Bowie State University to meet the Bulldogs on September 25.
