Felicia M. Johnson brings more than 20 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics administration, with extensive expertise in athletic business operations, fiscal management, NCAA compliance, student-athlete development, strategic planning, and departmental leadership.
A proud graduate of Virginia Union University, Johnson has deep roots within Panther Athletics. Throughout her career at VUU, she has served in several leadership capacities, including Associate Athletic Director, Director of Compliance, Senior Woman Administrator, Interim Athletic Director, and Director of Athletics. In these roles, she provided leadership in budgeting and financial operations, NCAA and CIAA compliance, team travel, personnel management, facilities, student-athlete services, vendor contracts, and the overall administration of athletic programs.
Johnson also served at Virginia State University as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Senior Woman Administrator and as Interim Athletic Director. Her responsibilities included departmental operations, fiscal oversight, NCAA and CIAA compliance, policy development, student-athlete eligibility, community engagement, staff supervision, and strategic leadership.
Nationally, Johnson has contributed to NCAA Division II governance through service on the NCAA Division II Management Council and Academic Requirements Committee. She has also served as a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee advisor and has remained committed throughout her career to developing programs that support academic achievement, leadership, community engagement, career preparation, and the overall student-athlete experience.
Johnson earned her Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems, cum laude, from Virginia Union University and a Master of Science in Parks, Recreation and Sports Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University.Her connection to VUU Athletics began as a student-athlete, where she lettered in three sports—softball, volleyball, and bowling. Her experience as a multi-sport collegiate student-athlete continues to shape her commitment to ensuring today's Panthers receive a well-rounded experience that prepares them for success beyond competition.
Johnson is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She is also Lean Six Sigma Black Belt trained and holds a certificate in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace.
In her role as Assistant Athletic Director/Business Manager, Johnson combines her institutional knowledge, financial expertise, and athletics leadership experience to strengthen operational efficiency, promote fiscal responsibility, and strategically align resources with the priorities of Virginia Union University Athletics. Her work is centered on creating sustainable systems that support coaches and staff while providing VUU student-athletes with the resources and opportunities necessary to succeed in the classroom, in competition, and in life.
Beyond her professional responsibilities, Johnson is the proud mother of her 16-year-old daughter, Kylie, who is beginning her senior year of high school. As a former collegiate student-athlete, athletics administrator, VUU alumna, and parent of a student-athlete, Johnson brings a unique perspective to her work and a personal understanding of the commitment, support, and opportunities that help young people thrive.
