Gerri “Gigi” Carter-Thurston tennis journey forged during her middle school and high school years, she played for her local school team. She attend Hampton University and while Hampton University did not have a women’s tennis team she continue to teach teens tennis and play competitively. Coach Gigi contributes and trains youth in her area leagues between Maryland and Virginia while teaching full time in the area school systems, to refining her skills in the game of tennis. She currently plays with the local USTA women’s league in the RVA area.
Coach Gigi took on the role of Volunteer Assistant Coach for the VUU Women's tennis team for the years of 2021-23. Coach Gigi refines her skill as an avid USTA player and tennis instructor for her students in Colonial Heights at CHHS and Tussing Elementary School.
Coach Gigi help form and develop a women’s league Phenomenal Women of Color Tennis Club in Chesterfield County, VA. She is the teams Captain and works with team members to keep in the USTA competitive ranks for women’s tennis.
Coach Gigi has a passion for tennis and coaching and continues to help her ladies to make the lady Panthers strive to be the best at their sport. Presently, Coach Gigi serves as the Head Women's Tennis Coach at Virginia Union University, continuing her mark of shaping aspiring athletes and enriching the tennis community.
