Coach Cannon began his first year at Virginia Union after spending last year at Division I University of Richmond. A former USA Indoor Championship qualifier and NCAA Division I student-athlete in the long jump, Coach Cannon’s expertise has made an immediate impact with the Panthers.
 
During indoor 2019-2020 freshman Te’Ahrian Tyler captured the CIAA Championship in the triple jump (14.11m PR), and freshman Charles Hall was named USTFCCCA/NCAA All-Region after placing 2nd in the CIAA in long jump (7.08m), both earning All-CIAA honors. Additionally, Coach Cannon’s jumpers accrued 27 of the team’s 65 total points en route to finishing 3rd as a team.
 
While a volunteer Assistant Coach for the Women’s Horizontal Jumps at the University of Richmond Coach Cannon assisted in the direction of 2019 Atlantic 10 Long Jump Champion Rebekah Green (5.86m PR),  2019 Atlantic 10 Runner-up – Long Jump Kayla Wood (5.90m PR), and an additional 3 x Atlantic 10 All-Conference Honors in the horizontal jumps.
 
Prior to that Coach Cannon served as the Assistant Coach – Men’s & Women’s Sprints/Jumps at Richard Bland Community College in Petersburg VA. There he facilitated the 2015 NJCAA National Championship Runner-up – Men’s Outdoor 200m (21.06), 2014 NJCAA National Championship Runner-up – Men’s Indoor 200m (21.30), and his athletes included matriculation to NCAA DI University of Arkansas – Josh Washington (10.45/20.83), 7 x NJCAA All-American Honors – Men’s Short Sprints, 7 x NJCAA National Qualifier – Men’s Short Sprints, and 3 x NJCAA National Qualifier – Women’s Short Sprints.
 
While a student-athlete at NCAA Division I Norfolk State (MEAC) Coach Cannon was a USATF Indoor National Championship Qualifier – Long Jump (9th place), 2 x NCAA Regional Qualifier—Long Jump, 4x100m, 3 x All—MEAC – Long Jump, and 1 x All—MEAC – Triple Jump. A Richmond native from Highland Springs High School he was the National High School Runner-Up in Long Jump, VHSL State Champion and HSHS school record holder. Prior to NSU Coach Cannon was a NJCAA Track & Field Student-Athlete for Coffeyville Community College, Coffeyville KS. There he was a 4 x NJCAA All—American – Long Jump, 1 x NJCAA All—American – Triple Jump, 2 x Regional Champion – Long Jump, and 4 x Jayhawk Conference Champion – Long Jump.
 
Coach Cannon, his wife, and family reside in Richmond VA.
