Evan Jones

Evan Jones is in his second season as part of Dr. Alvin Parkers Virginia Union University football coaching staff coaching the Cornerbacks. During his 1st season Jones helped VUU make a playoff appearance and win the CIAA conference championship. He helped the Cornerbacks double their interceptions from the previous season, VUU also led the CIAA in interceptions and ranked 8th in the NCAA in interceptions. VUU was also 21st in the NCAA in passing efficiency. Jones also coached 1 all-conference selection in 2023.

At his previous stop Jones was the Defensive Passing Game Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach at Stevenson University. While at Stevenson the Defense set a school record for points allowed in a season averaging 15 point per game. He coached 3 All MAC Conference Selections as well as the team making an appearance in the Centennial/MAC Bowl Series finishing the season 8-3.

Before Jones joined Stevenson coaching staff he spent four seasons as a part of Reggie Barlow’s Virginia State University football coaching staff. While at VSU he coached the Defensive Backs, Outside Linebackers and Inside Linebackers during his tenure.

While working with the Trojans during the 2019 season, the defense ranked fifth in the NCAA Division II and first in the CIAA conference in total defense. They also were fifth in the NCAA Division II and second in the CIAA conference in third down defense, 10th in the NCAA Division II and first in the CIAA conference in rush defense. Also, they were 13th in the NCAA Division II and second in the CIAA conference in red zone defense.

During his time at VSU Jones coached five CIAA All Conferences selections and also had two student athlete who signed as an undrafted free agent in the NFL.

Prior to VSU, Jones spent six seasons as the varsity Defensive Backs and Tight Ends Coach at Benedictine College Preparatory under Head Coach Greg Lilly. During his time at Benedictine, he helped the Cadets make the playoffs every season, appearing in three state championship games while hoisting two state championship trophies. He coached 12 student athletes to All - State selections as well as having 11 student - athletes signing Division One National Letters of Intent while at Benedictine.

Jones earned his Master’s in Sports Management from Virginia State University in 2018. He was a three-year letterman in the secondary at Chowan University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 2012.
