The Virginia Union University women's basketball team was defeated by Clark Atlanta University 74-62 in the Black College Invitational Championship (BCIC) on Thursday, March 20, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Despite a strong effort and late-game momentum, the Panthers were unable to overcome a challenging second quarter, which ultimately hindered their chances of securing the victory.
Leading the charge for Virginia Union was sophomore
Taniyah Greene, who contributed 17 points, while
Rori Cox posted a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Brittini Martin also added 10 points in the effort. Despite these standout performances, the Panthers struggled with consistency throughout the game, particularly in critical moments.
Head Coach Tierra Terry Reflects on the Game
Following the loss, Head Coach
Tierra Terry expressed gratitude for the team's opportunity to participate in the inaugural BCIC, while acknowledging the areas that need improvement. "We are grateful for the opportunity to play in the inaugural BCIC," Coach Terry shared. "A bad second quarter hindered us from capitalizing on a late run in today's game. We would get a much-needed basket but would miss a defensive assignment in the same possession. We have to correct these errors before our game between Livingstone or JCSU tomorrow to officially end our season with a win."
The Panthers now look ahead to their next game, a critical matchup against Livingstone College at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 21, also in Charlotte. With the season on the line, Virginia Union is determined to end on a high note and finish strong.
Looking Forward
While Thursday's loss was a tough one, the Panthers are focused on the future. The upcoming game against Livingstone College provides an opportunity for redemption, and Virginia Union will be looking to clean up their mistakes and close the season with a win.
Stay tuned as the Panthers continue their quest for a strong finish to what has been an eventful and challenging season.
