WBB Suffers Loss, Will Play Thursday in CIAA Tournament

The Virginia Union University women's basketball team suffered a tough 82-68 defeat to Virginia State University on Saturday, February 22, in Barco-Stevens Hall, Richmond, VA. Despite the loss, the Panthers finished the regular season with an impressive 20-6 record, securing the #2 seed in the Northern Division heading into the 2025 CIAA Tournament.

Virginia Union showcased some standout individual performances in the game, with Rori Cox leading the charge by scoring 23 points. Taniyah Greene contributed a strong 16 points and also grabbed a
team-high 8 rebounds, while Nevaeh Reaves added 11 points. Despite these efforts, Virginia State executed its game plan effectively, handing the Panthers a challenging defeat.

Head Coach Tierra Terry reflected on the game, noting, "Virginia State has a lot of good players and they really followed their game plan. Maybe this loss will wake us up because this was a real slap in the face." It's clear that this loss has served as a valuable wake-up call for the team as they prepare for the upcoming tournament.

The Panthers' next challenge will be the CIAA Tournament in Baltimore, MD. The Lady Panthers will play the winner of the C;af;om/Elizabeth City State game at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27.  As they enter the postseason, Virginia Union will look to build on their strong regular-season record and use this loss as motivation for a deep tournament run.
