Richmond, VA – November 26, 2025 – The Virginia Union University Panthers delivered a commanding performance on both ends of the court Wednesday evening, defeating the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds 71–46 in a non-conference women's basketball showdown at Barco-Stevens Hall.
VUU attacked the paint effectively while knocking down timely perimeter shots, executing their "inside-out" game plan to near perfection. Defensively, the Panthers held UDC to just 32.0% shooting from the field and 12.5% from three-point range.
"We executed well on both ends of the floor," said Panthers Head Women's Basketball Coach Alico Dunk. "We stuck to our game plan — we wanted to play inside-out, and our team did a great job with that. Defensively, we were strong for the most part. We had some unnecessary reaching and fouling that put them on the free-throw line, but overall, it was an excellent defensive performance."
Game Highlights
- Efficient Shooting: VUU shot 48.1% from the field (26-of-54), including 40.0% from three (6-of-15).
- Defensive Stand: The Panthers limited UDC to 24 total rebounds and just 10 assists, while forcing 10 turnovers.
- Controlling the Paint: Virginia Union's strong interior presence fueled scoring runs and created openings from the perimeter.
With the win, VUU improves to 3–1 on the season.
