Virginia Union University's women's basketball team returned to the win column with a hard-fought 71-63 victory over Bowie State University on Wednesday, January 22, in Bowie, Md.
The Panthers showcased their resilience after trailing 32-28 at halftime. Leading the charge wasÂ
Rori Cox, who delivered a stellar performance with 22 points, including a flawless 12-for-12 showing from the free-throw line.Â
Nevaeh Reaves added 17 points, whileÂ
Taniyah Greene contributed 12 points and led the team in rebounds with nine.
Head CoachÂ
Tierra Terry praised the team's determination following the game:
"True resiliency was shown by our team tonight. We took a tough hit Saturday at the Freedom Classic but bounced back tonight vs. Bowie, who was also tied for #1 in the North. We had stellar performances from
Rori Cox,
Taniyah Greene, and
Nevaeh Reaves.
Rori Cox went a perfect 12-12 from the free throw line.
Bruni Martinez and
Hailey Blackwell might not have scored a lot, but their respective 3 and 4 assists made a huge difference as well. We still need to finish better and limit our turnovers, but we were proud of our efforts tonight."
Virginia Union's next game is set for Saturday, January 25, against Bluefield State University. Tip-off is at 2:00 p.m. at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
