Mark Wright passed for 324 yards, but Virginia State University defeated the Panthers 35-28 on Saturday, November 9, in Petersburg, Va.
The Panthers, however, had already clinched a spot in the CIAA Championship Game, to be held in Salem, Va., on Saturday, November 16.
VUU will face a rematch with Virginia State University in the CIAA Championship Game, marking the first time since 1932 that the two teams will meet in a post-season game.
"We took a tough one today, we had our chances." said VUU Head Football Coach Dr.
Alvin Parker. "We now prepare to defend our championship in Salem."
Virginia Union finishes the 2024 regular season with a 7-3 record overall and a 6-1 record in the CIAA.
The last time VUU and VSU met in a post-season game was on December 3, 1932, in Norfolk, Va., in a game billed as "The Tiebreaker Bowl."
Both teams had finished their regular season game with a 6-6 tie. Virginia Union and Virginia State decided to settle the tie with a post-season game.
Virginia Union won the post-season game 6-0.
