Virginia Union University racked up 520 yards in total offense, including rushing for six touchdowns, as the Panthers downed Bluefield State University 57-12 on Saturday, October 28, in Bluefield, W.V.
VUU's
Christian Reid, a graduate student from Newnan, Ga., who is majoring in Mass Communications, completed 12 of 19 passes for 276 yards. Reid also hooked up with
Reginald Vick, Jr., a redshirt freshman from Wendell, N.C., who is majoring in Business, for an 81-yard touchdown pass.
Virginia Union's
Jada Byers, a junior from Bridgeton, N.J., who is majoring in Social Work, led VUU with 67 yards and a touchdown. His teammate,
Curtis Allen, a sophomore from Petersburg, Va., who is majoring in Business, had 59 yards and two touchdowns.
The defense got into the scoring when
Ephraim Moore, a senior from Odenton, Md., who is majoring in Mass Communication, intercepted a 2-point conversion pass and returned it 98 yards for a defensive PAT.
"I thought the guys played an excellent game today," said VUU Head Football Coach Dr.
Alvin Parker. "I was happy with how they came out and had a good first half. I was really happy with how things went today."
The win, coupled with Virginia State University's 75-25 win over Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, sets up the VUU-VSU game which will determine the winner of the Northern Division of the CIAA.

Justin Meade, a senior from Richmond, Va., who is majoring in Business Management. "It's winner take all, do or die, win or go home."
